Research Assistant Positions Available 
December 2025

JOB SUMMARY:
The Partnership for Research with African Newcomers (PRAN) is looking for several candidates to support literature review, data collection (interviews and focus groups), qualitative data analysis, and academic manuscript development on several projects funded by Canadian agencies including the Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and MITACS. Research topics currently underway include: Black entrepreneurship in Alberta; Settlement and integration experiences of sub-Saharan African immigrants and refugees (SSAI);  Community organizational support of SSAIs. Reporting to Dr. Okeke-Ihejirka and the PRAN Senior Research Manager, the RAs will join a vibrant national team of PRAN staff and research assistants, which meets regularly for research training, mentorship and professional development. 

Major Responsibilities of Positions: 

      • The Black entrepreneurship position will include in-person one-on-one interviews in Edmonton, beginning January 2026; Minimum 15 hours per week; Training will be provided; Additional tasks include updating and conducting literature reviews and data analysis, as appropriate to the candidate’s previous experience and skillset.
      • Several other positions will carry out qualitative data analysis (coding and re-coding of transcripts for developing thematic analyses of results); Additional tasks include updating and conducting literature reviews and data analysis, as appropriate to the candidate’s previous experience and skillset. Research Assistant (Application now closed)

The Partnership for Research with African Newcomers (PRAN) is looking for several graduate student Research Assistants to support literature review, data collection, data analysis, and academic manuscript development on several projects. Reporting to Dr. Okeke-Ihejirika and the PRAN Senior Research Manager, the RAs will join a vibrant national team of PRAN staff and research assistants, which meets regularly for research training, mentorship and professional development.

The positions include:

  1. One or more positions to carry out online and in-person one-on-one interviews in Edmonton, beginning May 2025; Minimum 20 hours per week;
  2. One or more positions to carry out quantitative data analysis of census and survey data. While training will be provided, previous training and experience in statistical methods is required;
  3. One position will carry out qualitative data analysis (coding and re-coding of transcripts for developing thematic analyses of results).

Research Data Coordinator and Analyst

PRAN is seeking a suitable candidate to lead data management and conduct statistical data analysis for PRAN research. Reporting to the PRAN Senior Research Manager, the Data Analyst will be responsible for managing all project data, supporting the data needs of the research team and partners, maintaining data quality, conducting quantitative data analysis, and supporting knowledge mobilization (reports, manuscripts, data visualizations) and research dissemination. Successful candidates will demonstrate curiosity and enthusiasm to quickly learn and integrate new data management and statistical analysis skills.
