Message from the Director

Hello,

I am Philomina Okeke-Ihejirika, a Full Professor in the Women’s and Gender Studies Department at the University of Alberta. Over 25 years, I’ve delved into gender issues across Africa, Canada, and beyond. My academic journey has shaped a lens of critical feminism, guiding my exploration of innovative methods like participatory action research, scoping reviews, meta-synthesis, and focused surveys.

Through PRAN, our collective initiative, we aim to understand the challenges that Sub-Saharan African immigrants face, provide them with valuable resources, and build strong partnerships to help them thrive in their new home, Canada.

I’m grateful for the support of funders like the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada, Status of Women Canada, and Rotary International that allow me to bridge academic insights into practical change. I look forward to continue and collaborating with Canadian service providers and policymakers as we strive for a more equitable world.

Best regards,
Philomina Okeke-Ihejirika
