Student & Professional Training

One of PRAN’s objectives is to create innovative training for students and professionals. We train and mentor students, offer Lunch & Learn webinars and workshops, create guides, slides, and tip sheets, and offer synchronous sessions of our capacity building Gender Institute.

For our Partners and network:

  • Workshops on research methods, data, proposal writing, reference management software, knowledge mobilization, and more.
  • Access to practical resources like guides, slides, tip sheets, and instructional videos on different software, programs, and methods.
  • A platform to share their expertise.

For Students:

  • Research Assistant positions provide hands-on experience in community engagement, research, and knowledge mobilization
  • The Capacity Building Initiative’s Winter 2025 GI Cohort, which offered:
        • Regular collaborative discussions with peers
        • Mentorship from established professors
  • The Gender Institute our online, 9-module course explores themes and topics on feminist research methodology, community engagement, leadership, and gender & migration.

Transnational Scholar Network

Seeking to foster transnational scholarship and collaboration, mentor emerging scholars, and strengthen community-engaged research and leadership, PRAN undertook a scholar-exchange project through the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarship program and Universities Canada.

On the Path of Social Responsibility and Global Leadership, PRAN’s QES project has welcomed 7 scholars from West African institutions to the University of Alberta since October 2023.  We hosted 4 scholars from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Nigeria), 2 francophone scholars from the University of Kara (Togo), and one scholar from the University of Ghana. Scholars are emerging researchers from Theatre and Film Studies, Linguistics, Migration Studies, Nursing, Sociology of Education, and Adult Education.

Each scholar completes modules through our online Gender Institute, volunteers with a community organization, engages with a research mentor, and attends local workshops, activities, and community events. Learn more about our QEScholars here
